The group we all know as “Dipset” was formed in 1997 by founders Cam’ron and Jim Jones. Based out of Harlem, the original members we’re Freekey Zekey, Cam and Jim Jones. Juelz was later added to the group in 1999.
The group was signed to Roc-A-Fella Records between 2001-2004. Their popularity hit right after Cam released “Come Home With Me” in 2003 with hit singles “Hey Ma” and “Oh Boy”. The group followed Cam’s solo album with their debut album “Diplomatic Immunity”in 2003. The lead single “Dipset Anthem” peaked at #64 on Billboard chart. The double disc album went Gold and the group later released “Diplomatic Immunity 2” in 2004.
Mid-2007 rumors flared that the group was split and had disagreements that couldn’t be resolved. Cam and 50 had a little beef at this time and then Juelz and Jim appeared on stage with 50 during a concert performance.
Juelz has always been vocal in stating that he felt he was the only serious member of the group besides Cam when it came to music. Once stated in an interview that he felt like they were holding him back and that the “mainstream” didn’t give him the credit he deserved. I agree. Juelz was always the most lyrical and never got as much credit.
They all squashed the beef and appeared together on the Summer Jam stage last summer. A Dipset Reunion was much needed. People often don’t credit the group for what they changed in the game. The good people at BoobzNTattoozRealityRadio SALUTE the movement!
