Live From the Kitchen | Are the Brooklyn Nets Title Contenders

Draft night where dreams come true.

Draft night, 1996 the Charlotte Hornets traded 13 pick Kobe Bryant to the Lakers for center Vlade Divac (the jokes write themselves). Though it was a night that young adults sign million dollar contracts, the most talked about trade happened between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets. With Doc taking the coaching gig in LA, the state of the Boston Celtics was up in the air. Trade rumors had been flying around between the Celtics and Nets that would send the remaining “Big Three” to Brooklyn. And then it actually happened with Brooklyn sending Gerald Wallace, Reggie Evans, Kris Humphries and three first round picks for Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry. Of course the Brooklyn fans (as the Lakers were last year) are calling this the championship run already. It’s a bit early to say how this team will pan out together.

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are shells of the players they once were. Kevin Garnett, Top 5 Power Forward of All-Time is a considerable upgrade than both Reggie Evans and Kris Humphries. HUGE gamble for GM Billy King. If this doesn’t pan out (see Lakers for reference) King will be left with a huge tax bill with limited resources to improve his team. Something the Nets have been known for, the quick fix. KG and Pierce will join the $80 million three (DWill, Johnson and Lopez) in the starting lineup.

The Pro’s

They both have flashback moments of what they used to be, KG is still a good defender whereas Pierce can still produce points as a primary scoring option. KG can immediately pick up some of the slack on defense where the Nets placed 17th last year. Garnett will also help out Lopez with rebounding.Having the two will take the ball out of Deron’s hands which will be a relief for him. Has Pierce behind the arc and KG on the pick and roll. Bringing KG and Pierce in can ultimately let everyone play their role and be a beautiful thing for this ball club. Everyone has to play their role, that’s the wild card.

The Con’s

Kevin Garnett, 37 and Paul Pierce, 35 can they hold up for an entire season and be a legit force?

How will Jason Kidd pan out as a first-time NBA coach?

A bit premature to call them a contender, especially with the Heat coming off a back to back championship and a tough Indiana team.

Guess we’ll have to wait.

Dolce, Gabbana Charged With Tax Evasion

27 Jun

According to Forbes, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana the masterminds behind the budding brand “Dolce & Gabbana” are facing a year and right months of jail time. The duo were knocked for tax evasion in Italy for hiding millions in euros from tax authorities!

TThe duo are indeed appealing the charges and given the length of the appeal process, they may not see a day inside a cell.

When will rich people learn that paying taxes are a MUST!

Live From The Kitchen | Dwight’s Future in Laker Land

After a disappointing season in Laker land, Dwight’s chances are slim to known for signing with the Lakers this off season sources closest to the situation say. I can’t say that I’m surprised that Dwight isn’t interested in signing with the Lakers. I can’t say that Laker fans even care that he isn’t.

The Lakers can offer Howard $118 million over five-years while other teams can only pay him max $88 million over four-years. Howard has plans to meet with Dallas, Atlanta and Houston once free agency opens up after July 1st.

The Lakers aren’t completely out of the running for Howard as we all know how dramatic and indecisive he can be when it comes to making trade decisions. If you remember back in 2011-2012 he demanded a trade and then opted to stay his remaining one year in Orlando.

Howard didn’t enjoy playing second option to Kobe Bryant and sources say he really didn’t enjoy playing with Kobe at all. He also didn’t particularly care for Mike D’Antoni’s coaching style and system he imposed upon signing with the Lakers after Mike Brown’s early exit. Dallas seems to be the most attractive option for Howard if they can clear enough cap space. With Dirk getting older, Howard could become the face of the organization. Dallas could then build around Howard.

Houston is also in the running but their style of play is more uptempo and doesn’t allow for Howard’s post play. Unless McHale can guarantee that they’ll fit Howard post game in, I don’t see him in Houston. Remember, Howard is media and attention hungry, he won’t go to any team that won’t revolve around him.
