Has the NBA gone too far?
New York Knicks guard, Iman Shumpert is known mostly for his old-school high-top fade. The guard went a bit beyond branding efforts and shaved the Adidas sign in the back of his head to show his “loyalty” and NBA officials weren’t having it.
“Sporting a corporate logo during games is indeed against NBA rules. Item 5 of Section H of the NBA rule book’s extended comments section, which governs “player/team conduct and dress”, reads: “The only article bearing a commercial ‘logo’ which can be worn by players is their shoes.”
The language appears alongside other uniform notes, which include: no t-shirts, players must tuck their uniform shirts into their shorts, players must assume a “dignified posture” during the National Anthem, and coaches and assistant coaches must wear a “sport coat or suit coat” during games.”
Though I’m all for adults expressing themselves however they chose, once their is legal binding paperwork, forget it. Freedom of expression becomes increasingly surprised even with something as harmless as a triangle shaped symbol.
I can understand why the league enforces this rule though. Imagine how out of control advertising might become if it weren’t.
