Timberlake started the performance on his own with a medley of his early solo hits ‘SexyBack’ (over the “F*ckwitmeyouknowigotit beat), ‘Like I Love You’, ‘My Love’, ‘Cry Me a River’ and ‘Rock Your Body’.
The *NSYNC reunion had beem rumored the week prior to the show but nothing had been confirmed by Justin’s camp or MTV. He was joined on stage by Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick to play the *NSYNC tracks ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Bye Bye Bye’. I personally almost fainted, growing up in the “boy band” era *NSYNC was every girls DREAM.
This was the first public performance by the chart-topping boyband since they sang the US National Anthem at their *NSYNC Challenge for the Children event in 2004.
JT closed the set with solo versions of his latest hits ‘Suit & Tie’ and ‘Mirrors’.
Fallon then appeared on the stage to give Timberlake the prestigious ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’, and listed off his many accomplishments.
“I don’t deserve this award, but I’m not going to give it back,” Timberlake initially teased.
He added more seriously: “Half of the Moonmen I ever won, I won with [*NSYNC]… I’m going to share this with them.”
